This rum was bottled for the first time in 2013 and released by the renowned manufacturer Barceló on the occasion of the 110th year anniversary of the La Aurora cigar factory in the Dominican Republic. It celebrates an extraordinary company history in the world of cigars. The company’s founder, Eduardo León Jimenes, was only 18 years old when he decided to realize his dream with six employees, a great deal of pas- sion, and hard work. Today, La Aurora employs over 1,000 staff on five continents.
“LA CITA”
A finish of two years in sherry barrels adds complexity and balance to this rum. A fantastic potpourri of toffee, caramel, roasted almonds, coffee with sweetened condensed milk, some wood, and aromas of sherry that later evolve pours out of the glass. On the palate, an especially spicy sweetness, paired with bitter almonds, tones of strong brewed coffee and balanced woody tones, delights the senses. What goes fittingly, of course, is an in-house product – a La Aurora 1903 Corojo Robusto is the perfect companion for this Caribbean rendezvous. The cigar capti- vates with its honey-like sweetness and, during the course of the smoke, develops a silky veil of spices that combines perfectly with the aromas of the rum. Overall, the flavors of both partners remain wonderful. At the end, notes of coffee can also be found in the cigar. Pure relaxation!
